MITSOURA is one of the most illustrious Eastern European worldmusic groups, the characteristics of which are its unique musical approach, sound and complex artistic pursuits. The group’s lead singer MONIKA (MITSOU) MICZURA, with her unmistakable voice and unique talent, is among the best of Gypsy performers the world over. She has worked together with the likes of film producer Tony Gatlif, (GadjoDilo), sang with Ando Drom, and toured the world with the Global Vocal Meeting project.The band members all represent different musical styles and are at home in both authentic and modern forms of music. The two musicians/sound engineers ANDRÁS MONORI (gadulka, kaval, saxophone) and MÁRK MOLDVAI (live electronics, keyboards) either complement, contrast, or totally transform one another’s musical world; in this way the song’s traditional and contemporary sound, folk themes, and the film-like patchwork of sound are all given equal weight. PÉTER SZALAI (tabla, percussions) with his fine, traditional use of the tabla as well as MIKLÓS LUKÁCS (cymbal) and his collective genus for the cymbal make the portrayal of sound more complete and colorful. MITSOURA’s music is made up of many, small components: one part is progressive, electro-acoustic worldmusic in which original folk music elements, jazz, contemporary, as well as progressive experimentation, modern and traditional dance, and classical music are all spun together in a never before heard style. During a performance MITSOURA undeniably recreates artistic content that is fresh, authentic, full of tradition, and becomes genuine, live, contemporary art. Despite the various effects, the repertoire remains unified; the beautiful melody, Mitsou’s suggestive performance style, the virtual instrumentation, and the special surround sound acoustics makes the group’s appearance an unforgettable experience. The concert experience is further enhanced by the constant, reactive, and live video animations prepared by ÉVA MANDULA. MITSOURA’s richly formed, visually expressed world of music is based on different cultural sources and enlivened by a system of Indian motifs and the works of leading figures in Hungarian gypsy painting. The exotic songs and instruments, modern electronic sound effects, and spectacular animations together create a whirling audio-visual atmosphere, in which a holistic artistic experience is presented to the audience, bringing them closer to the true meaning of the music. In addition to MITSOURA's regular concerts at home, the group frequently and successfully appears at international world music festivals. After a truly successfully performance at the WOMEX festival in 2005, they secured an invitation to the WOMAD festival in 2006 which is associated with the name of Peter Galbum. Dolgozott többek között Tony Gatlif filmrendezővel, (GadjoDilo),énekelt az Ando Dromban és a világszerte turnézó Global Vocal Meeting projektben. A zenekar tagjai különböző zenei stílusok, rangos képviselői, akik valamennyien otthonosan mozognak mind az autentikus mind a modern zenei stílusokban. A két zeneszerző-hangszerelő MONORI ANDRÁS (gadulka,kaval,szaxofon) és MOLDVAI MÁRK (élő elek- tronika, billentyűs hangszerek) kiegészítik, ellenpontozzák vagy teljesen átlényegítik egymás zenei világát így a dalokban tradició és a jelenkor hangjai, az etnikus témák és a filmzeneszerű hangkollázsok egyaránt szerepet kapnak. SZALAI PÉTER (tabla,percussions) finom, tradicionális tabla-játéka, valamint LUKÁCS MIKLÓS (cimbalom) valamennyi műfajt ötvöző cimbalom-játéka teszi még teljesebbé és szinesebbé a hangképet. E sok apró részletből áll össze a MITSOURA zenéje -egyfajta progreszív elektro-akusztikus worldmusic-, melyben soha nem hallott módon fonódnak össze az autentikus népzenei elemek, a jazz, a kortárs illetve a progresszív kísérleti elektronikus zene, a jelenkori és hagyományos tánc illetve könnyűzenével. A MITSOURA előadásában valóban újjászületik, friss, aktuális művészi tartalommal telítődik a tradíció és válik valódi, élő kortárs művészetté. A sokféle hatás ellenére is egységes repertoár, a gyönyörű dalok, Mitsou szuggesztiv eladásmòdja, a virtuóz hangszeres játék és a különleges surround (térhatásù) koncerthangosìtás feledhetetlen élménnyé teszik a zenekar fellépéseit. A koncertélményt tovább fokozza a zenével folytonos összhangban lévő, arra reagáló élő videoanimáció, melyet MANDULA ÉVA készített. A MITSOURA zenéjét vízuálisan megfogalmazó gazdag formavilág különféle kulturális forrásokból táplálkozik, a computeres és rajzolt animációkban indiai motívumrendszerek és a magyar roma festészet figuralitása elevenedik meg. Az egzotikus dalok és hangszerek, a modern elektronikus zenei effektek és a látványos animációk így együtt magávalragadó audio-vizuális atmoszférát teremtenek, mely a hallgatót minden érzékére ható totális művészeti élménnyel ajándékozza meg és közel viszi a dalok valódi lényegéhez. A MITSOURA a rendszeres hazai koncertek mellett gyakori és sikeres fellépője a nemzetközi world-music fesztiváloknak. A 2005 évi WOMEX fesztiválon való sikeres szereplés után meghívást nyert a Peter Gabriel nevéhez kapcsolódó WOMAD fesztiválra, ahol második lemezük anyagát mutatják majd be 2006.-ban.
